A mind is a terrible thing to waste...on negative thinking.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
We believe that our thinking absolutely affects our health. And that having mostly positive, harmonious, and optimistic thoughts can change not just your body and physical health, but your relationships, your work, and your entire life. We also feel that humor is the shortest distance between two people and should be used as often as possible.
KEY TOPICS
- What you Think About: I know...positive affirmations may seem a bit "Mary Sunshiney", but they actually work!
If you can begin worrying less and start thinking more optimistically, you'll be amazed at the difference it can make. Positive thinking, positive affirmations, visualization, self-hypnosis techniques, mindfulness meditation, the mind-body connection: a huge self-help industry exists on these topics. Why not try them? - How you Feel: ♫ "I feeeeeeeel good!...You knew that I would now." ♫
Try your best to steer clear of people, places, and things that make you feel bad. Instead, surround yourself with whatever makes you feel good. For additional support, the options are many: therapy/counseling or support groups, self-help books/CDs/DVDs, self-hypnosis techniques, journaling, guided imagery, visualization, energy healing, homeopathy, flower essences, as well as mind-body activities like deep breathing exercises, mindfulness meditation, yoga poses, and tai chi. Listening to or playing music is also a great way to help shift your mood. - How you Manage Stress: All stressed up and nowhere to go?
Sure, a little stress gets your engines going but does anyone really enjoy feeling frazzled? The best stress management tips for you may differ from what works for someone else. The key is to find what calms YOU. The types of support listed above also apply here. So, take a few deep breaths. Picture yourself in a relaxing place. Exercise. Get out in nature. Get a massage. Take a warm bath. Learn self-hypnosis techniques. Whatever works! And please don't forget that laughter really is the best medicine. Everyday, find something to laugh about. - What you Watch, Read or Listen to: Do you like scary movies? ......
The News, TV, movies, the Internet, radio, music, video games, books; what you view, read, and listen to does affect you. Neuro-imaging studies show that media violence activates the same brain regions that are stimulated when you're actually in a threatening situation. Why put yourself through a gunfight if you don't have to? Instead, try watching, reading, and listening to more things that make you laugh, make you think, take you on an adventure; or those with inspiring or romantic themes. And if you feel you can't live without the edgy stuff, at least try to limit your intake. - Who you Hang out with: Are your buds duds? Do your peeps give you the creeps?
True, you can't choose your family of origin but you can choose your new family, friends, and other people and groups you affiliate with. Being around negative "glass is half-empty" people can be downright draining. If you instead spend time with positive-minded individuals who are supportive, nurturing, and fun, you'll be happier and healthier.
